I've graduated from Otago University (NZ) with a BCom (finance econ). Work in the Finance industry since 2007 so only took me a year and a half to completely ruin the global market, pretty pleased with myself there! I don't know what I want to do with myself........

Melbourne

If you ever go to Melbourne, check out the Crown Casino, it has a great poker room.

After looking around I decided to play the 1/2 NL table buy-in $60. I must say the cost of playing here was much better than Sydney as they only charge you time $5/hr on this limit and 10% rake compared to Sydney, much cheaper!

I went for the first time at around 10pm one night and stayed until around 330am when my sister came to see how I was doing. Not bad I replied. When I sat down there were a few players around the table with stacks around $300 so there was plenty of money to be made. At first I had to be tight as I could see the large stacks picking off the other smaller stacks around the table so I was quite happy to see my pocket 10s turn into a set with an A on the board and doubled up against AQ when he forced me all in. That night I cashed out $400 odd and was happy with my play.

After a few nights there I had a night off and decided to go early in the day around noon. I'm not sure if it was just that I was card dead, or card dead with other opponents but this was my only losing session, already down $60, I had got up to $90 when play was folded around the table onto me on the button with KK - a great hand since I had had nothing for the past 2 hours I raised from $2 to $12. SB called and BB raised to $25, he was probably the weakest on the table and had been playing aggressively so I raised all-in, the SB called, and BB folded. I was gutted when my KK was torn to shreds when SB flipped over AA. He had only just come into the game so it was only $60 but to have my best hand of the night crushed was just cruel. No K came on the board by the way. So after a horrid days play down around $250 (3 buy-ins and a couple of top ups after losses. I had to rebuy when my AQ was beaten by A4 when a 4 fell on the river after me going all in. I decided one more rebuy and try to get back some and was dealt 10 10 first hand back. I decided blow it ALL IN, in late position call by the button and BB. flop was A K Q and I knew i was almost out, a blank on the turn, but a nice J on the river giving me the nut straight, BB with AQ was furious but I had no sympathy the kind of day I had had. Played a few more hands then I took my $200 and ran so I was down around $110 for the day.

The highlight of the night trip came with about 30 mins before 5am as I had a early flight home I decided to stay up and sleep on the flight, I had already had a super night a was up to around $600. I was dealt 4 6 in BB no raises so a simple check. 3 to the flop came 2 5 9 rainbow, and I was praying for a 3 it was checked around, turn brought an A, no luck there, but again it was checked around. now came the river - 3 WHOOP WHOOP!, there was no flush out there so I knew I had the nuts, the SB checked and I threw $5 into a $6 pot, this is where it all got exciting! the button raised to $20 and the SB raised to $80! I milked it a bit and looked at the board pretending to be perplexed at their betting, at the same time I made sure there wasnt something I was missing but no there was no flush no pair on the board and I knew I was good for the pot. I then asked the dealer what the minimum I was allowed to raise was. He replied up to $140, so I decided to raise to $160, the button called, the SB then went all in and I instantly called, the button was already in for most of his chips so he threw his remaining $40 in and while the dealer sorted out the side pot I told him no need, I had them both covered and the SB showed 2K, i flipped my 46 nuts and the button showed his set of 3's. I was very happy as I had just roped in about $400 from the SB and $200 from the button.

Overall I had 4 sessions where I had come out up and one when I lost a bit, overall I was up $1500 or so from my stay in Melbourne, I paid for my sisters tattoo, and gave her some cash for my stay.

The rest came back with me where I started my final year at Otago University in Dunedin, NZ. The holiday has helped me live a nice comfortable student life this year compared to others where I had to scrimp and save.

Anyway my first exam for the first semester is on Thursday, so I will get back to some study. I've taken a break from playing online until my exams are over so I won't have any details of any play until I start again after the holidays, and I will be working for the semester break as well so its not likely I will play then either.

I still have one more post about a local tournament I won down here a couple of weeks ago.

Good luck on the tables all
Kanyezee
