I've graduated from Otago University (NZ) with a BCom (finance econ). Work in the Finance industry since 2007 so only took me a year and a half to completely ruin the global market, pretty pleased with myself there! I don't know what I want to do with myself........

Holiday In Aussie

In February 06 I jumped over the Tasmen for a holiday in Sydney and Melbourne before returning to Uni for the year. Went to Sydney first to visit my Aunty and 2 cousins at Bondi, while doing a site seeing day alone, harbour bridge, opera house and the like I decided to check whether the Sydney Casino had Poker.

Turns out they did but the stakes were quite high, I think it was a 2/5 NL with a buy-in off $200 and hand commission of $1 and 10% rake. They also had limit games going on but I wasnt tuned into my limit game as I had been playing NL lately and I definately prefer NL. Anyway after tossing up whether to play or not I decided to and damn I had the Shakes lol

My first win was in the SB when I got dealt 6Js, and the board came JJQ, I checked and it was checked around. the turn came 6 so I was likely to take down a nice pot if I could get some action. I checked and the BB bet about 1/3 of the pot, everyone folded and I raised his bet 2 1/2 times, and he raised me again, I was thinking oh ow. But I decided to call. River came something like a 4, I bet out about 1/3 of the pot and he called. To my delight he simply asked if I had the J, and it sounded like I had won this, I said better and showed my J6. I took in my chips with hands trembling and I think the players around the table looked at me in delight.
At one stage I was up to $800, with one hand the money maker, with about $350, I was dealt AA in late position, one guy raised from $5 to $50 so I raised it up to $125 needless to say it was just me and him the rest of the way, The board came AKx rainbow, he beat $80 and I raised all-in knowing I was well ahead of any hand and the only thing that would beat me would be quads or a straight, I was happy to take this down right now and collect, but he pushed his chips in with a smile and a celebratory clap, I was thinking WTF? I flipped over my rockets at the same time he showed his AK and sank into his seat. He tilted and the player to my right who I had struck up a nice friendship with took the rest of his chips.
Ended up $590 as I couldn't hit many hands in the late stages, but was fun nonetheless.
Will fill you in with my Melbourne trip next time
